Beauty comes in my shapes and sizes

That's my feet
That's my feet again

The 1960's were a time of innovation. in art, in fashion and in music. and to stumble upon an artifact of this time was a happy accident. Motif was an art magazine for the 1960's to preview art from that period. I chose Motif 10 over the others because Sir Peter Blake designed it. This man designed Sgt Pepper so this man is a legend. Below are a few spreads from the book that I found most appealing.
It cost me £5 and it was worth every penny in my opinion.

Birthdays on a student budget.

Celebrating someones birthday is always a difficult task on a student budget. but with the power of photoshop the task of making a card for the occasion could not be simpler (if you remember to make a card; sorry vin). all you need is a cheesy selfie of the person and a nice font. simples. So in order. Sophie's card, Laura's card and Lucy's Card. These people are my uni friends and I do this out of love not out of being evil.

It was my 20th last week and I got a card back by Laura; seen above looking angry. It's hit a new level of crazy.

Baby, you're a Firewerk

That typo in the title is intentional, so don't worry, I hate that song so so won't credit it properly. Just the person I am.

Last weekend, fireworks lit up the sky's above Carlisle as part of the fireworks display. set to music the fireworks would explode out of time but at least did drown out the bad songs. No everyone takes photos of fireworks as if they are still things with no sense of movement or motion. So I spiced the light show photos up using long exposure, my fabled friend. Visual chaos is the optimum phrase here. Yes the photos repeat as well but this was done to light up the page, just like they did the sky.

a Long time in the making

This poster ws completed a month ago but has only officially hit the streets in the past weeks. It is the final poster for The Voyeurs show at the Brickyard. It took a long time due to the lack of band management. I made a much more effective previous poster but the band wanted to change the image so I had to start again. This poster has no imagination or beauty to it, it simply does the job and that's all that matters in the end.

Stand by more gig posters on the way...WATCH THIS SPACE.

Down in Train Station after 10?

I have only tried to upload these multiple times in the past 2 weeks since they were taken.

As per usual I pick my friends up from the train station every time that they go home. It's kind of a tradition cos more often than not I miss the bones off them when they leave. but anyway. on this ocassion the train was delayed so I had to fine something to do while waiting. twiddling my thumbs had no real appeal. So I got out my phone camera and discovered it had a long exposure option and these have always fascinated me, so I Passed the time looking an idiot and moving my camera around.

The result above do vary. The Heart shape is nice, the complete visual chaos and abstract seems to catch my eyes too. Hipsters do this all the time and claim it to be deep and thoughtful but I just like the look. More images in this style are to come...

The Big Reveal

Its all been very quiet on my blog recently but don't worry, its not because I don't love you people its because I have had a very stressful week taking photographs for my uni project. I thought I that I would use this opportunity to reveal, since it is nearly halloween, my costume. Prepare to start singing hits like "Jean Genie", "Drive in Saturday" and "Panic in Detroit". I am dressing up as a personal hero; David...Boowie? David Bowie. I mean....or do I?

Digital Punk

Digital DIY. Punks would of hand drawn these and hand coloured them using felt tip pens and then photocopied the life out of them. In modern times. Punks if they want this aesthetic can just use a computer tablet and a pen. No Photocopier. No Cost. You loose a little of the style but is an easy way of getting hand drawn text and images onto the computer.

I did these flyers to promote records in general as i do consider them to be a marvelous invention. It has since become a status symbol for hipsters who want to look fashionable. Punks would of made flyers like this themselves to promote the new single or EP as it was the cheapest most cost effective way of doing so.

formed a band and had loads of good fonts

if typefaces were instruments they would probably would read like this. The typeface is in red and the additional characters that they require to name the instrument. enjoy.

Love Is Love

Love is love, imagine being told you can't love the person you love more than anyone in the world simply because they are of the same sex as yourself. Love is all you need, the Beatles were right. Many people daily are feeling the effects of homophobia; verbal abuse, Physical abuse as well as sexual abuse and it's not fair. Society has come along way but it still needs to go further. No one should have to suffer because of love. It is universal, we all feel it for various things and a significant amount of people feel it for others. I love Music and Graphic Design and Cherry Bakewells. I love my friends; some of which who actually suppressed who they were through fear of homophobia.

I have lots of causes that are close to my heart and I want to promote them through my blog. Click and Share and we can promote equality in society. STAMP OUT HOMOPHOBIA.

State of the Nation: Part 2

My last post on this subject got a great amount of coverage and success and I liked the idea very much. Having never read 1984 by George Orwell, I love the idea of the dystopian future ruled by the goverment, the thought of seeing these propoganda around us in the vintage 30's style would be amazing. However, in that situation I would be incapable of free thought and I would not be able to enjoy them as musch as I do know. The idea of these REALLY existing is laughable.Hope you like them. I do also enjoy controversial design hence some of the language I have used here is of that ilk.

Half Music, Half Design

Inspiration is the fuel of design and without it ones would be impossible. Nothing is ever created from scratch. I watched an interesting online documentary called "Everything is a Remix" which helps explains this theory better than I ever could.

So on this basis I will show you where I get my inspiration. I run a tumblr blog which works as inspiration source; featuring various images hosted by other people on said website which I effectively display on my site. http://jareay.tumblr.com/

Pinterest as been a website of interest (see what I did there). it is a site where I can pin images from a other peoples virtual pin boards and post them on my own person virtual pin board where these images remain for permanent reference. This is a good source as it helps with colour schemes and layouts. http://uk.pinterest.com/jareay/

On another note here is a confusing bit of typography for y'all

Life Begins at the Hop but Charity begins at Home

"My Brother was diagnosed with Arthritis a number of years ago and at the time he did not get the right support and was lead down a number of wrong paths which only caused him more distress. This charity has been set up to help parents and children through the diagnosis and treatment of Arthritis. They have got my support because I don't want anyone to feel like him and my parents did." - me

I was given a design job to design a banner/car sticker for a charity that was set up to put Arthritis in children on the map because people think that is only a disease that effects the elderly. Within weeks of communications and tweaks a final design was set up and ready for action. It was sent into the final in the design competition but with no overall winner they are yet to be printed. I hope that one day they will be and the promotion of the cause will be raised. It means a lot to be that people don't suffer like my brother did.
