All is quiet on the South Hylton Front apart from one incident involving a random lady bursting into an office, saying "What is this place?" and forced herself on the nearest computer to use the internet.
I have been writing click bait headlines for my bosses new business venture for what seems to be his never ending advertising ideas. Click bait is lazy marketing in my opinion )and most of the internet's advertising advice sites) but it is a vehicle that leads to clicks which what he is targeting as he "grows the brand".
I have also been working on my versions of the adverts; which don't look corny, that appeal more to the right demographic or any click bait ideas. They are clean and simple with sort of a vintage (instagram filter) photo idea going on. I would intend for these to be still adverts however the bosses idea is to animate them. but at the minute we have six adverts of my versions, six versions of the revised old ideas and we could end up producing some click bait ads and then 4 different sizes and then animating all of them. We could end up with 72 adverts!
I have been listening to Beatles podcasting all day as well. "I have a Beatles Podcast" and "Things We Said Today" to be specific. Check em out if you love the BE AT LES.

Smint of the Times
the first project back from the summer was on Smints. Smints! We thought as a class thought it was a naff idea but with limited scope and limited time, we had to come up with it quickly.
Apparently idea generation only takes an hour. It took a little longer to come up with my concept but it ended up getting a good grade, a 65 is a good grade. The idea is based on the universal language of road signs and that even non drivers understand some of the at least. It is a campaign aimed at creative people and these people are visual so sought to put two and two together.
Below are the edited versions of the ones that I handed. These are the updated versions, these are less shouty (the originals were all in full caps), there wasn't a reference to link the Smint shape to the road sign shape & I have shrunk the elements on the bottom so they look more cohesive.
It is also a competition on le facebooks for money and prime london advertising space for your advert. I am aware this is technically an advert and I am falling into the trap but money. that is all.

How a Beall-ing
Lester Beall. A man that I had not heard of since I scrolled down my pinterest the other weekend and now I consider his work most highly. In one range of posters he used very simple colours and text to advert the needs of the American people. Rural Electrification Administration's campaign was it's name. Ostritch sans was the main font more my choices but initially he used a serif typeface. I trimmed it down to just type as an extra challenge to see if I could make it work. Setting yourself limitations makes you work harder to find a solution. I think.

State of the Nation: Part 2
My last post on this subject got a great amount of coverage and success and I liked the idea very much. Having never read 1984 by George Orwell, I love the idea of the dystopian future ruled by the goverment, the thought of seeing these propoganda around us in the vintage 30's style would be amazing. However, in that situation I would be incapable of free thought and I would not be able to enjoy them as musch as I do know. The idea of these REALLY existing is laughable.Hope you like them. I do also enjoy controversial design hence some of the language I have used here is of that ilk.

Life Begins at the Hop but Charity begins at Home
"My Brother was diagnosed with Arthritis a
number of years ago and at the time he did not get the right support and
was lead down a number of wrong paths which only caused him more
distress. This charity has been set up to help parents and children
through the diagnosis and treatment of Arthritis. They have got my
support because I don't want anyone to feel like him and my parents did." - me
I was given a design job to design a banner/car sticker for a charity that was set up to put Arthritis in children on the map because people think that is only a disease that effects the elderly. Within weeks of communications and tweaks a final design was set up and ready for action. It was sent into the final in the design competition but with no overall winner they are yet to be printed. I hope that one day they will be and the promotion of the cause will be raised. It means a lot to be that people don't suffer like my brother did.
