So keep your chin up, Chin Up

the title as you will never of guess is a quote from a Back to Basics song "We Cannot Change", it's a good song, but has literally nothing to do with this.

It's a charity gig for the charity called Chin up, with three indie bands (two bands and one solo musician, if you want to be picky) from the UK. "Chin-Up provides a respite self-catering holiday for families whose child/children suffer from either a terminal or life limiting illness." So it's all in a good cause.

It was a tricky as a poster in one sense as the logos given to me were low resolution so remade one  in Bebas (I think) and found a (slighty) higher resolution version of the other. Lewis ... just needed a nice typeface. It was also tricky not to make it look like a gay pride event.

Beauty comes in my shapes and sizes

That's my feet
That's my feet again

The 1960's were a time of innovation. in art, in fashion and in music. and to stumble upon an artifact of this time was a happy accident. Motif was an art magazine for the 1960's to preview art from that period. I chose Motif 10 over the others because Sir Peter Blake designed it. This man designed Sgt Pepper so this man is a legend. Below are a few spreads from the book that I found most appealing.
It cost me £5 and it was worth every penny in my opinion.

Life Begins at the Hop but Charity begins at Home

"My Brother was diagnosed with Arthritis a number of years ago and at the time he did not get the right support and was lead down a number of wrong paths which only caused him more distress. This charity has been set up to help parents and children through the diagnosis and treatment of Arthritis. They have got my support because I don't want anyone to feel like him and my parents did." - me

I was given a design job to design a banner/car sticker for a charity that was set up to put Arthritis in children on the map because people think that is only a disease that effects the elderly. Within weeks of communications and tweaks a final design was set up and ready for action. It was sent into the final in the design competition but with no overall winner they are yet to be printed. I hope that one day they will be and the promotion of the cause will be raised. It means a lot to be that people don't suffer like my brother did.

Raising Awareness

The world was moved by the death of Robin Williams and the public has reacted by saying that we need to raise the profile of mental illness in society. This is a topic that is very close to my heart as some people that I love and care about have been effected. So I made a stand as a designer to raise awareness about this cause. A simple two colour type poster is what I thought would be most effective. "Depression" stays in the same place as it does in most peoples lives who suffer from it. The additional text works around it. The messages are simple and clear.

If you are effected by depression or know someone who is please share this and hopefully we can change peoples thinking. You are not alone in your plight. If you are feeling low or anxious contact your GP or "Mind" for advice.
