Politricks

This is a little poster I did for an adbusters competition that didn't pass the entry stage. but you guys can have a go here and see the gallery of other submissions; if you are keen on being overly political design.

I thought I would share this poster because I am very happy it and portrays the political process to me. Not Politicians (Keep Corbyn). Politricks is a line from an LCD Soundsystem song or at least that's where I heard it first and I have adapted the definition of Politics. The Playing card because it's all a game and a King; he is all powerful like some of these politicians think they are.  *Cough* The Conservative *cough* Party.

Love -Byn or hate -Byn

Is it really bad that I got over excited by Jeremy Corbyn's win to the labour leadership? Probably not because many people did. He a long term left winger won without my vote, much to my shame; I realised too late. He won with 59.5% of the first round of voting, shocking many people.
I am writing this as not to promote his awesomeness, no I am writing this to talk about him. He has been "trending" on Facebook since he won, the fact that he did so trended for 3 days and everyday I have seen his name on that list. The media perpetuate his every move making news out of it.
  • The first full day of his leadership, camera's pestered him at his home & as if a few hours in the job, he will of sorted it all out.
  • Announces his first members to the shadow cabinet, few are women & the press take it like it he anti women.
  • Makes a vague statement about europe & media takes it like he is going to leave europe.
  • Wants to change PMQs to be more civil, the press say it's a lost cause & his MP's don't like it.
  • He did not sing the national anthem, makes the papers on the same day the government agree the tax credit cuts & no one stops to think he has freedom of speech or lack of it.
  • media says that he is not doing enough, that is he controversial & haven't given him the time or the room to prove himself.
I am not saying that it's just Corbyn, the media do this to a lot of people and they need to sort there act out.

Politics week

All of this week, I am rejecting my normal design structure of the blog to do a series of blog posts on politics. I have gotten really political since Gordon Brown entered downing street. That is when I first got engaged with the financial crisis. I remember coming out with a really angry right wing-ish, people should survive by themselves and stand up on there own two feet, in English class. Post rant, I was asked by an orange lady, how do you know so much about politics and simply said I watch the news.

I am now ashamed at my right wingish past, there are many reasons why people are on benefits, (at the time of the rant, benefit fraud was everywhere on the news). In the first post you will find out what wing I am now, followed by my opinions on various subjects effecting world politics.

Between the Credit Crunch and Corbyn; I have been heavily politicised by the singer by Billy Bragg. He is a man who has taught me more about politics and the human condition than school ever did and I would like to share this great video of him singing one of his classics rewritten to fit the times.

*None of the images this week will be mine but the opinions will be.

If We Tolerate This, Then Your Children Will Be Next

Homage's are dangerous, homages happen because you love something so much you are willing to open up and rip it off. I love stonewall's campaign from what it actually quite a long time a go, "Some people are gay, Get over it" was short snappy straight to the point. The colours were striking, I have tried to match the typeface here but it hasn't really worked.

I made these to target the people who assume that Muslim's are terrorists. It's not the Muslim's that are terrorists, no where in their religous texts I am sure it does not condone violence, killing and murder. Terrorists are the terrorists. People can say they are terrorists in the name of a religion but no religion kills in the name of God.

You must be out of your criminal mind

We all think politicians are criminals, ripping us off via expenses, their pay and their lack of anything. So these hold them to account for crimes. As per usual politicians think that are above the law so now it is tiem to fight the power. In light of various figures in politics being arrested and charged the system is working. There is a certain satirical appeal to these pieces because under British law a lot of these aren't actually a crime but they should be. especially ed who as you can see if the worst offender of the lot of these mugs.
on another political note, part two of a conservative way to have fun, a publication I first made as a year one project with my associate Vincent, is due to be released soon with as many goofs and gags as the first one but without the help of my associate who is preoccupied with his other jobs to contribute. if you have not seen part one this is unfortunate but also maybe due to the about published were in limited numbers.

No Future

I am gonna set the scene. what if four of the countries most hated politicians formed a band and put party differences aside to play politically charged songs for the people. what would they be called? who would play what? what songs would they play? actual answers don't exist. because this could not and will not happen. but if it did the above would surely be the result.

Band name: No Future
Members:
  • Ed Millibanned : Vox
  • George the Unborn : Guitar
  • Nigel Sabotage : Bass and Vox
  • Theresa My Not : Drums
Songs: TBC

Fractured Magazine

Over the weekend I gave myself a brief, I gave myself a task, to design a magazine. Just the front cover as an identity breaker. I have started editoral at uni so the next step would be to approach the inside of the magazine but above is the start.

I found a really beautiful typeface in my font gallery which came in three seperate bits. Each letter form was split between the three of them (a normal version was included too). So the idea of seperated and an almost shattered typeface lead me to the name "fractured" as title for the zine, it was based on the style of zines from Wired, Clash or Little White Lies. Hipster but not outsider.

The Images are of some cult figures of TV and music. I would love to read articles on these beautiful people all of which have a close connection to my favourite radio station; BBC Radio 6 Music. I have been influnced by all and I would like to think that if this publication was real that they would like to read it.

an electric approach was needed to reflect the wide range of styles of the people present. the two tone chessboard for the specials front man, the  warm colours for the soul man and the unique DJ listening to her self.

Read All About it, whatever it maybe.

Satire causes endless amusement, Politics helps me make an eduacted opinion of people and places and Political satire got me the best grade that I have ever gotten. So to do a set of pieces inspired by political satire as well as humor made so much sense to me. Having previously been inspired by the cut out style of Jamie reid I thought first to attack news papers. The Press is the enemy as it makes so many people look bad but to cut them up and rearrange the words means I can make the people I hate personally seem like the enemy. I have tried to be controversial like my heroes Jamie Reid.

as a side note = Words can express so much but verbalizing things has always been hard for me. so to write them down is a much simpler and makes me feel less anxious about what I am going to portray.
